Coupling grease should not be replaced with multipurpose grease: Coupling grease is formulated to protect couplings, designed specifically to hold up in the high centrifugal conditions we see in couplings, with the oil and thickener not separating even in high speed conditions. (These conditions require a high viscosity of 3200 centistokes or greater – which is much greater than the base oil viscosity in multipurpose grease!
