Turning Landfill Gas into Clean Energy

Turning Landfill Gas into Clean Energy
Landfill gas is a natural byproduct of the decomposition of organic material in landfills. It is roughly 50% methane, 50% carbon dioxide, and a small amount of non-methane organic compounds.
Methane is a potent greenhouse gas that is 28 to 36 times more effective than carbon dioxide at trapping heat in the atmosphere over a 100-year period: Instead of escaping into the air, landfill gas can be captured, converted, and used as a renewable energy resource!
Using landfill gasses…
- Helps to reduce odors and hazards associated with landfill gas emissions
- Prevents methane from migrating into the atmosphere and contributing to smog and climate change
- Creates energy projects which generate revenue and create jobs in the community and beyond!
