ILSAC

The International Lubricants Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) is a cooperative effort between North American and Japanese automobile manufacturers to develop and establish performance standards for automotive lubricants, including engine oils.
(While the Association des Constructeurs Europeens d’Automobiles (ACEA) also sets standards for automotive lubricants, they differ from ILSAC in their geographical scope and the specific standards they develop, catering to European automobile manufacturers.)
Working in conjunction with API, ILSAC’s engine oil standards are designed to meet or exceed established service categories. ILSAC GF-6 was introduced in May 2020 and released to address the latest engine technologies. It provides improved fuel economy, engine protection, and compatibility with modern emissions control systems.
It’s split into 2 subcategories, the primary difference concerning the viscosity grade and high temperature, high shear (HTHS) performance: GF-6A covers SAE 0W-20, 5W-20, 0W-30, 5W-30, and 10W-30 viscosity grades. GF-6B has better fuel economy and covers only the SAE 0W-16 viscosity grade.
